A TEENAGER has appeared in court to deny a sex assault alleged to have happened in Worcester on a 'boozy night'.

Rhys John appeared before magistrates in Worcester on Thursday. The 19-year-old indicated a not guilty plea to the charge that he sexually assaulted a woman aged 16 over by touching her in the city on December 17 last year.

The 19-year-old student, who was wearing a suit, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and his indication of a not guilty plea.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting, said the case involved an allegation that the defendant had 'taken advantage' of the complainant on a 'boozy night' in the city.

The prosecutor argued that the case was not suitable for summary trial and magistrates declined jurisdiction for the case.

The defendant of Needham Drive, Cranage, Crewe was granted unconditional bail to appear at Worcester Crown Court at 10am on October 8.
