THE government has announced new rules that will see social gatherings of more than six people made illegal in England from next week.

The rules change is being implemented after the number of positive cases rose steeply nationally, and after police forces said they would like rules on social contact to be simplified.

After the announcement was made we asked for your views, and here are some of those posted on social media:

Lisa Ann said: "If we have to sacrifice a few social gatherings so our children are safer in school so be it."

Gemma Durham said: "Explain why 30 kids can be in a classroom together then if can't have more than six people together."

Susan Mills said: "Not surprised the way the public are acting.

"It's not fair on the people who have been on lockdown for months. It won’t end for ages."

Dave Davies said: "They shouldn't of opened pubs and we wouldn't have lockdown measures again."

Nicola Long said: "It was clear it was coming, don't think anyone will be shocked."

Dixon Anny said: "Pathetic - Covid-19 doesn’t spread at school work pubs or restaurants just amongst friends/family."

Emma Cook said: "Why is it OK for my kids to be in a room of 29 other children who they don't live with? So confused."

Rob Moore said: "It’s pointless. Time to learn to live with it and move on."

But Sam Cwik said: "At least everyone is safe until Monday!

"You have to give credit where it’s due ‘coronavirus’ is a very well behaved virus.

"It only attacks when the government says it can."
