LOGISTICS firm DHL has said safety is "paramount" after confirming a city warehouse has had a case of coronavirus.

It follows a whistleblower claiming there were a number of issues at the DHL warehouse at Shire Park, and there had been a number of cases there - claims DHL has strongly denied.

The source told the Worcester News that masks were not being worn in the warehouse, there were meant to be half hour gaps between shifts to allow for cleaning but the earlier shift was overlapping with the following one, and there had been no temperature testing.

The source added: "I need to work but I’m scared to work.

"Social distancing is advised but isn’t happening as nobody is complying - managers included."

A spokesman for DHL Supply Chain said: “The safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount.

"Since the start of the Coronavirus outbreak we have followed strict government guidelines around social distancing, with regular reinforcement by local management.

"As a result, to date we have had just one confirmed case at Shire Park.

"All staff are briefed on the importance of social distancing and the correct way to hand wash, while soap and hand sanitisers are widely available, with clear instructions displayed throughout the operation.

"Our key priority remains the wellbeing of our colleagues and providing long term employment for as many of them as possible.

"To this end, we are willing to subject any of our operations nationwide to independent audit, to demonstrate that we are taking every step necessary in the fight against Covid-19.”
