WYCHAVON District Council has confirmed a new tree will be planted in memory of a Droitwich teacher.
The council appealed in August to find the family of Jimmy James who had a horse chestnut tree in his memory in St Peter’s Fields.
The tree was found to be structurally unstable with poor growth and a compression fracture, and as it could no longer support its own weight it posed a safety risk.

Councillor Emma Stokes said it was upsetting the tree had to come down as it was planted in memory of someone "who obviously meant a great deal”.
There was a huge response to the appeal, that allowed council officials to get in touch with Mr James’ family.
And a council spokesman has now said after talks with one of Jimmy’s daughters it has been agreed to replant a new tree of the family's choice this winter.
