AS strong winds batter the county, a 'yellow' weather warning has been issued by the Met Office.

A spokesman for the Met Office says travel disruption is expected and even loss of power in places, as well as possible fallen trees blocking roads and footpaths - so take extra care when out and about.

Worcestershire County Council, through their 'Worcester Highways & Travel twitter page, says: " As winds pick up across Worcestershire, we're expecting some fallen trees - if you spot a problem you can report it to us: 01905 854676 (9am - 5pm) or 01905 765765 at (other times)."

High sides vehicles are particularly vulnerable to wind forces.

Public transport could be disrupted so plan ahead before travelling.

However, for Saturday onwards, there are no weather warnings in place at the current time.

Temperatures will remain much lower than the heatwave conditions seen at the beginning of August. Storm Ellen has originated from a tropical cyclone which has built up energy moving across the Atlantic, gaining power and moisture as it is ‘fed’ by the ocean.

Ireland has experienced the brunt of the storm already, particularly on the west coast areas, including Kerry, and some coastal flooding is expected at a time when many holiday makers are staying by the coast. The storm was named by weather forecasters in Ireland.
