A BRAVE girl battling cancer has now been moved to a children's hospital, after she wakes up from a coma.

Lily Mae Filmer, 9, went into Acorns Children's Hospice for end-of-life-care just days ago, after battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for three years.

Mum Kayleigh Chapman said: "I honestly thought our next post would be to announce the passing of Lily

"We have transferred Lily back to Birmingham Children's Hospital - Monday morning Lily woke up.

"She is still very poorly but she showed us a huge change in her alertness by responding to noises and movement.

"She has made tiny improvements since then in facial movements - nose wrinkles and yawning - and moving her arms and hand squeezes.

"She’s been awake for a few hours at a time, with her eyes wondering around the room, and constantly checking who’s with her.

"We are beyond excited about these changes and believe that she is showing us exactly what she does best, and that’s prove everyone wrong and doing it all on her own terms.

"We are very aware that we could easily end up back where we were over the weekend, and this is by no means easy for any of us, but we also agreed that we’d always follow Lily’s lead and do what’s best for her.

"Please continue to pray, send wishes and hope that Lily stabilises enough to eventually come home! She may get to meet her baby sister after all."

Her mum posted the statement on a dedicated Facebook page 'Lilys freedom fight' this afternoon [August 19].
