BARTESTREE and Lugwardine suffered a narrow defeat by two wickets in second round of fixtures in the Worcestershire County League Regional Trophy.

The hosts got off to the perfect start against Barnards Green seconds after being put into bat.

An opening wicket stand of 101 saw Matthew Tulacz (50) and Ben Simpkin (37) put their side into a commanding position.

However, wickets started falling and they put on 50 runs for the next four wickets before completing their 40 overs on a respectable 182-8.

With the ball Tom Strangward took an early wicket and when Marcus Ashcroft took the other opener the visitors were on 32-2.

However, Barnards Green kept the scoreboard ticking over and despite Sam Bowen taking 3-33 the visitors reached 187/8 with an over spare.

Eastnor took their first win of the competition with a convincing four-wicket win over Kempsey.

Bowlers Raheel Lone (3-20) and Mohammed Munir (3-21) had the hosts all out for 105.

Despite the Eastnor openers also struggling with the bat Lone contributed with a high scoring 30 and Scott Roberts (22no) saw them over the line.

Meanwhile, Brockhampton seconds picked up a narrow win as they saw off Bredon by four wickets in the final ball.

Tom Skerrett and Indiana Jerram both took two wickets as the visitors finished on 124/9 to set a revised target of 131 off 32 overs.

After a slow start Brockhampton needed an unbeaten 45 from Skerrett to help them to narrowly hit their target finishing on 132/6 off 32 overs.

It was a day to forget for Herefordshire sides in the Premier Cup after all three county sides suffered defeats.

After their opening day victory Brockhampton were bowled out against Worcester some 53 runs off a revised target of 251 from 36 overs.

Brock openers Ian Bullock (46) and Henry Langford (86) provided the only resistance for the visitors as they fell from 130-1 to 197 all out.

Meanwhile, Colwall fell agonisingly one-run short of a share of the spoils against Worcester Nomads.

The Nomads put on a century for the opening wicket before Richard Howitt (4-24) and James Wagstaff (2-31) saw the removal of the two openers and the brakes were put on Nomads run total, finishing on 136-7 off their allocated 30 overs.

Colwall were given a rain-adjusted 146 to chase and soon lost two wickets quickly in their reply.

However, when Richard Howitt (41no) joined Olly Cox (59) at the crease the pairing scored at a steady rate to leave Colwall needing seven to win from the final over and two from the final ball.

Howitt was unable to score off the final ball, leaving Cox run out in a desperate dive for the crease.

Meanwhile, Burghill, Tillington and Weobley fell 56 runs short chasing a substantial target of 252/6 off 40 overs by Old Elizabethans.

Whizz Ettinger top scored in the run chase with an 81, but his side fell well short finishing on 196/6.

In the Shield competition Burghill, Tillington and Weobley seconds made it two wins from two as they beat rivals Bromyard by 41 runs.

Despite batting on a very wet wicket opening batsmen Denholm Smith (68) and Clive Chadhini (50) put on a stand of 131 for the first Burghill wicket, with their side eventually finishing on 222/4 off 40 overs.

Both Bromyard openers Jack Barrett and James Owens hit half-centuries but their side lost three quick wickets including captain Edd Oliver for a duck, finishing up on 181 all out.
