A BLUE and Gold Macaw which spent years attracting people to a Ramsbottom shop is now living a life of luxury with a former store worker.

Charlie, a popular parrot which attracted visitors from the area, became something of a 'celebrity' according to owner, James Chomiak.

After James posted the news of his pet's new home on Facebook, dozens of user flooded the comments to share their memories of visiting the parrot in the Northern Parrots pet store.

Several posted that they had wondered what had happened to Charlie and were glad to see that she was still alive and kicking.

James said: "I had been going in the pet shop since I was young and every time I would always go and see Charlie.

"Much later on in life I actually started working there as an in-between-jobs job. At this point I already had a keen interest in creatures of all sorts and had all sorts of pets, mainly tarantulas and scorpion.

"I started at the shop and straight away wanted to get the chance to work with Charlie so I did.

"A lot of people came in just to see Charlie, she's a bit like a celebrity of Ramsbottom and don't get me wrong, we got on well, but she still took chunks out of me."

Around five years later, the shop owner was selling and James and Charlie went their separate ways.

The day James got in touch with former owner, Ann, he found that Charlie was being re-homed and was able to adopt her.

Charlie has company in the shape of an African Grey called Gomez and a Kakariki parrot named Terror.
