Man taken to hospital after major fire at the Old Swan Inn, Gargrave

We are currently dealing with a building fire in #Gargave.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene, at the Old Swan Inn, earlier this evening. 

Andrew Steer, Priest in Charge of Gargrave, tweeted: "Shocking events in Gargrave tonight.

"Serious fire at the Old Swan pub, at least one person seriously injured. Please pray for the family, staff and the whole village.

"Excellent work by emergency services. Thankful for them."

Firefighters from #Skipton #Grassington #Harrogate & #Lofthouse along with friends from @Earby_Fire, @ColneFire, @YorksAmbulance & @NYorksPolice remain on scene & are expected to do so for quite some time.

In an update, North Yorkshire Police said:

Update on #Gargrave pub fire. Man in 50s taken to hospital. @NorthYorksFire dealing with the blaze. Nearby properties ave been evacuated as a precaution and local residents urged to close windows & doors due to heavy smoke. Diversions are in place. Please avoid the area.

Please avoid the Gargrave area as all three emergency services are dealing with a large scale fire.

We've got a number of fire crews dealing with a fire at the Old Swan Inn on the High Street on Gargrave. Please avoid the area. We are likely to be at the scene for some time.

North Yorkshire Police earlier said it was a "concern for safety and fire incident".

The force said: "Motorists and pedestrians are urged to avoid the High Street area until further notice."

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "There may be a lot of smoke in the area, so we would advise people nearby to keep doors and windows shut."

One video posted on social media shows thick plumes of smoke billowing from the pub.
