A WHITCHURCH running group is raising money for charity, by taking part in a 67-hour marathon.
From 5am on Saturday, May 23 to midnight on Monday, May 25, Whitchurch Whippets will run a virtual relay to raise money for the Whitchurch Foodbank.
Each runner taking part has been allocated a 45 minute slot to run or walk, and run the risk of dropping the virtual baton by starting their slot either too late or finishing too early.
The idea is to have a member of the Whitchurch Whippets running at any giving time during this time frame, even during the night.
The group had initially aimed to raise £500, but reached the target by Saturday evening, so are now aiming for £1,000 instead.
Runner Fiona Leatham says the main aim behind the fundraiser is to support families that require the help of the Foodbank.
"During this time of crisis more and more people are having to take support from the food bank in order to live day to day," said Fiona.
"With this increase in demand donated food from supermarkets is not enough on it's own to feed local families in need, with more and more food banks relying on donations in order to purchase food to give out."
