LUDLOW people have a week left to pass on final comments to Shropshire County Council about changes to the town's parking scheme.

Hugh Dannatt, Shropshire County Council's group manager for traffic engineering, said the deadline was November 30. "We do intend, subject to any representations, to implement changes in January 2008," he added.

The planned amendments take into consideration the views expressed by local people, traders and members. They include: A three hour maximum stay in pay and display spaces in Ludlow's central Red Zone.

A 10p charge for 30 minutes parking in those spaces, 50p for up to an hour, £1 for up to two hours and £2 for up to three hours.

Including Quality Square, the courtyard off Market Square, in the Red Zone.

Mr Dannatt said: "In order to allow for the necessary time to consider any comments received, and to avoid causing disruption to the town during the busy Christmas period, unfortunately the scheme will not be amended before Christmas.

"We feel it is extremely important to get this right so that we can find an acceptable solution for residents and traders in the town."

Comments can be sent to Mr Dannatt on engineering@shropshire-cc.gov.uk or by post at Economy and Environment, Shirehall, Abbey Forgate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6ND.
