Almost 80 farmers rolled out their tractors for a charity run at Coed-y-Dinas in memory of a colleague who sadly took his own life last year.

George Davies, who grew up on a family farm outside Welshpool, at Rhydy Groes, took his own life in September, aged just 28.

One of the organisers, Darren Edwards, said: “We all work at the country store and were friends and colleagues of George.

“We all work together as a team and have pulled together these last few months and supported each other through the tough times.”

The tractor run took place at Coed-y-Dinas on Sunday, March 15, at 11am.

Darren said that quite a few people turned up, and that with 76 tractors attending - it was far more than he was expecting.

Over over £1,500 was raised from the event, which will be donated to two mental health charities: the DPJ Foundation, which focuses on mental health support for people working in agriculture, and national mental health charity Mind.

The money was raised through entry fees for all 76 of the tractors, where £10 went to charity; sales of cakes and ribbons; and a raffle courtesy of Louise Davies and Vicki Stevens. The organisers would like to thank the staff at the Lowfields Inn in Marton who served the group a lovely Sunday lunch.
