A contractor has been appointed to lead a £1 million project to refurbish County Hall in Llandrindod Wells to allow it to be used by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Plans are in place to move staff working for the Government into the building, which also houses Powys Council.

And now Oswestry-based business Pave Aways has been awarded a contract to deliver the refurbishment.

The company, which has previously delivered projects for the Welsh government including Invertek Drives' £4.6 million factory in Welshpool, said it will use local builders to deliver the job.

Managing director Steven Owen said: “We are delighted to have won this competitive tender and look forward to starting work when the current coronavirus crisis is over and renewing our relationship with the Welsh Assembly.

“We will be utilising businesses in our supply chain within a 30 mile radius of Llandrindod Wells with a pledge to procure 90 per cent of resources and services from Wales. This will be a welcome boost for them after what will be a very uncertain period for many.”
