A POPULAR Indian restaurant which has been serving customers for 43 years in Halesowen has won an accolade in a national competition.

The Ameena on Hagley Rd has been given a 'highly commended' certificate in the West Midlands category of the Tiffin Cup - an annual competition which aims to find the best South Asian restaurant in the UK.

Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris presented the Ameena with its certificate, signed by Ainsley Harriott.

Regular customer James said: "For many years the Ameena has provided local people with a high quality restaurant and takeaway.

"I am glad that I was able to present this certificate to the staff who work so hard - especially as I've had my fair share of tandoori mixed grills there!"

The Ameena has been a favourite for local residents since 1974 and is family business.
