Here is what Highways England say about the M27 and M3 closures this morning, including the diversion routes:

The M3 is currently closed from J13 to J14 southbound however, traffic is also not able to join the M3 northbound from the M27 J4 westbound or Chilworth Link, with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the motorway.

The closure is due to an emergency roadworks operation and Highways England has resources deployed working hard to restore normal conditions as soon as possible.

Lanes 2 and 3 (of 3) are also closed between J12 - J13 on the M3 in both directions.

For traffic approaching the closure locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and may potentially have to re-route your journey.

If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.

Diversion route details and guidance is as follows; Road users wishing to travel Northbound are able to access the M3 J14 via the link road from J4 of the M27 eastbound.

However, are not able to via the M27 westbound at J5 or the Chilworth Link so please see below diversions: Chilworth Link closure - For traffic intending to join the M3 northbound via the Chilworth Link road, from the Chilworth roundabout join the A27 (Bassett Green Road) for approximately 1 mile and continue eastbound to the junction with the A335 (Stoneham Way).

Turn left at the junction and join the A335, following to M27 junction 5.

At the roundabout, rejoin the main diversion route northbound to M3 junction 13 (below) using the 2nd exit and joining Stoneham Lane or using the 1st exit to rejoin the M27 westbound carriageway.

If you are travelling westbound on the M27 and wish to join the M3 northbound follow the below diversion "Solid Diamond": Exit the M27 at J5. At the roundabout, take the exit to join Stoneham Lane.

Follow for approximately 0.75 miles.

At the next roundabout use the 2nd exit and join Chestnut Avenue.

At the next roundabout use the 1st exit and join Passfield Avenue.

Continue on Passfield Avenue for approximately 0.75 miles, to the traffic signal controlled A335 (Leigh Road) junction.

Turn left and join the A335, continue beneath the M3.

Turn left at the junction to rejoin the M3 northbound.

Road users travelling southbound on the M3 are asked to follow the "Solid Triangle" diversion route: Leave the M3 at junction 13.

At the A335 (Leigh Road) junction, turn right onto Leigh Road and follow until Passfield Avenue junction.

Turn right and join Passfield Avenue.

Follow for approximately 0.75 miles to a roundabout.

Turn right and join Chestnut Avenue.

Continue to the next roundabout.

Use the 1st exit and join Stoneham Lane.

Continue for approximately 0.75 miles, to the M27 Junction 5 interchange.

At the interchange roundabout, use the 2nd exit to rejoin the M27 eastbound or the 4th exit to rejoin the M27 westbound.

Continue westbound on the M27 to junction 4 to complete the diversion.
