THE writing is on the wall for an Anglesey writing festival aiming to put the island on the literary map.
The second annual Anglesey Writing Festival hopes to become like the Hay Festival of Wales. The festival is being held at the Ysgol David Hughes, Ffordd Pentraeth, Menai Bridge, 9am-5:30pm, on Saturday, November 9
It comes a year after Amazon named Bangor the independent publishing capital of Wales. Ann Kitson, who is on the festival committee, said: "The festival came about because writers in the area wanted something local." Jean Roberts, who chairs the committee, said "The first festival was "warm and inviting."
With names like Poet Fiona Owen, international playwright Karen Ankers, to Eisteddfod Môn winner Non Ifans, both traditional and “indie” published writers, will deliver workshops from getting started in scriptwriting to writing for wellbeing. The Women's Institute Wales will serve coffee while festival attendees browse through locally written books.
The AWF is run by volunteers responsible for everything from planning and writing grant applications to setting up chairs and serving lunch, and working with local businesses.
Committee member Patricia Lennon said: “We’re always looking for new ideas and welcome anyone who wants to be involved,” she said.
