A YOUNG boy was taken to hospital after swallowing a lot of water during a sea rescue in Prestatyn.

Emergency crews were scrambled at 4.38pm on Saturday, after 999 reports came in of multiple people in the water at Prestatyn, near the Nova centre.

Rhyl and Flint coastguard teams, police and ambulance services and the Rhyl RNLI were tasked to help, with Rhyl lifeboat teams on standby.

The casualties were recovering on the shore when emergency services arrived on the scene, but one boy was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Holyhead Coastguard said "The casualties involved recovered on shore, but one had swallowed quite a lot of sea water and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The incident was over by 6.09pm."
