SOUTH Shropshire is expected to be basking in sunshine this weekend as the UK experiences this year's latest heatwave.

Bright sunshine will arrive in time for the bank holiday weekend and temperatures could reach 27 degrees in Ludlow and Tenbury Wells on Saturday, according to the

Met Office

.

Sunday will be marginally cooler with highs of 26 degrees and Monday's forecast shows temperatures up to 23 degrees.

The Met Office said from tomorrow (Friday), south easterly winds will draw warm air from Europe towards the UK, bringing rising temperatures along with dry and settled weather.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Harris, said: "August has been mixed so far with some rather unsettled spells for many, however that's going to change this weekend as we see high temperatures, sunshine and light winds return.

"On Saturday and Sunday there'll be plenty of sunshine, especially in the east, with temperatures rising into the mid to high 20s Celsius for many.

"Western parts are likely to see more cloud, and a probable cooling trend through the weekend.

"By Monday the higher temperatures will likely become confined to the south east of England where temperatures into the low 30's Celsius could again occur, which would set a new record for the coming summer bank holiday Monday."
