A FANTASTIC day of soap box racing down the hill on Hanway Common raised £12,000 for local charities.

Over the past 15 years the community run Richards Castle Soap Box Derby has raised a staggering £126,000 which has been distributed to over 50 local charities and organisations.

This year's soap box raised funds for Ludlow Hospital League of Friends, Orleton CE Primary School and Bishop Hooper CE Primary School.

Over 2000 spectators attended the derby, encouraged by fine weather and fantastic views, watching many imaginative carts speed down the course.

Lunchtime entertainment included parades from local car clubs, lawnmower racing, the Welsh Axemen, Tenbury Brass Band and more.

Fastest down the hill was C12 from Chippenham, with Acceleramus from London in second place.

Local team, the Dynamite Boys came 3rd.

Chairman, Humphrey Salway comments "The day sees huge crowds flock to see the thrills and spill of soap box racing, with carts of all shapes and sizes taking part. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, making this year's event so successful. We're already looking forward to next year!"
