Violinist Rachel Podger and her ensemble Brecon Baroque will perform at Malvern Theatres on Friday, June 28.

According to The Observer, their performances leave you ‘breathless with admiration’ and, in 2018, leader Rachel Podger was named Gramophone Artist of the Year, with the awarding panel saying that ‘there is probably no more inspirational musician working today’.

Founded in 2006 Brecon Baroque has received particular acclaim for its performances of 18th century Italian repertoire, not least Vivaldi, whose set of violin concertos The Four Seasons will be heard in the second half of Friday’s concert. In the first half, the ensemble will perform other concertos and sonatas by Vivaldi as well as JS Bach’s celebrated keyboard arrangement of the D major concerto from Vivaldi’s Op.3.

Malvern Theatres' marketing director Fred Moroni said: "Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is one of the most famous pieces of music ever written and Rachel Podger’s recent recording of it is arguably the finest by a British violinist since Nigel Kennedy’s some 30 years ago. We’re delighted to welcome this prestigious ensemble to Malvern."
