MOST young children living in Tenbury and the Teme Valley will have secured a place in the primary school of their choice.

But for those that have missed out there is still a chance to lodge an appeal.

Children will start school in September and so have six months to prepare for what is a major milestone in their lives as they begin their education and being away from home.

Last year, 92.5 per cent of children received a place at their preferred school, with a further 4.6 per cent receiving a place at their second-choice school.

Every child, for which an application was submitted to the county council, received a school place.

For the last few years, the county council has consistently seen more than 90 per cent of applicants receive a place at their first-choice school, and they are keen for this to continue and improve even further in the future.

“Starting school is a major milestone in a child’s life,” said Catherine Driscoll, Director of Children’s Services with Worcestershire County Council.

“Our statistics for allocating preferred school places have been moving in a really positive direction for a while now and we’re very keen for this to continue into the future.

“This is really positive for families in Worcestershire, as many children’s educational journey begins with news about their first school. It’s great news that so many children will be starting school this year in their first or second choice school.

“Our statistics for allocating preferred school places have been moving in a really positive direction for a while now and we’re delighted that this year sees that trend continue.”

Over the last few years, Worcestershire County Council has been promoting applying online via the County Council’s website.

This year, 98 per cent of all Worcestershire applications were made online.
