A Nailsworth resident fears someone may be killed if more is not done to stop lorries getting stuck on a street.

Paddy Coyle, who owns Nailsworth Computer Shop, says on a near daily occurrence heavy goods vehicles head up George Street , often led that way by their GPS, only to find they can not tackle the narrow road.

As shown in a video posted by Paddy today - he has a webcam set up on the corner, which is overlooked by his shop - they often escape using the turning into Morrisons, reversing up towards the W and blocking traffic in the meantime.

A sign tells lorry drivers their vehicles are too big for the road at the turning from the roundabout, but Paddy says it just gets ignored.

"It's a constant pain - I've been campaigning against this for the past ten years," he said.

"The authorities will not act. One day somebody will be killed - they might act then."

Today's turning follows several other incidents, including two lorries damaging the cattle grid on the street when they got stuck in May this year.

In response to Paddy's concerns, Paul Helbrow, local highways manager for Nailsworth at Gloucestershire County Council said: "There is a highways sign in place to inform drivers of the weight restrictions for George Street in Nailsworth.

"If residents are concerned about dangerous driving in this area, we suggest they report this to the police with as much information as possible, including dates, times and vehicle registration details.

"Once the police are aware of this happening regularly in the area they can work with our highways team to look into any further action that needs to be taken."
