Rowing royalty, Olivia Carnegie Brown, is set to open the new Aldi store in Stroud on Thursday December 13.

The Olympic silver medallist will cut the all-important ribbon at 8.00am with the help of store manager, Tanya Parker, and pupils from Gastrells Community Primary School.

To mark the occasion Aldi Stroud will also be gifting its first 30 customers with a complimentary bag full of fruit and vegetables.

Olivia Carnegie Brown, who won silver at Rio 2016 as a part the British women’s eight rowing team, said: “I can’t wait to cut the ribbon to officially open Aldi’s new store in Stroud.

"Aldi has done so much to support Team GB over the years, so it is my pleasure to welcome its first customers through the doors.

"I’m sure it will be a brilliant morning.”

The new Stroud store will be run by a team of 36 from the local area.

Spanning over 1,254sqm of retail space, the store on Bath Road will offer the very best of British produce and deliver an exceptional shopping experience.

Store Manager, Tanya Parker, added: “We can’t wait to finally open the doors and welcome the local community to this new store.

"Having Olympic silver medallist, Olivia, join us for the celebrations will be amazing, we are all looking forward to meeting her.”

As part of Aldi’s Get Set To Eat Fresh initiative, which encourages children aged between 4 to 15 to cook and enjoy fresh, healthy food, with their families, the rowing star will head over to Gastrells Community Primary School after the grand opening to deliver an inspirational assembly to the pupils.

Olivia will give the children an insight into the training regime of an Olympian and discuss the importance of being active and eating fresh fruit and vegetables.

Olivia will also present the children with a donation of fresh produce courtesy of Aldi to help fuel the children throughout the school day.

Olivia concludes: “I am excited to talk to the pupils of Gastrells Community Primary School about all things healthy living. It is so important that we motivate children to eat well and stay active.”

The store, located on Bath Road Trading Estate, Bath Road, Stroud, GL5 3QF, will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
