RADNOR Valley C.P School held their annual football and netball Brook and Border tournament in New Radnor recently.

This year the event was unique in that it had schools from three different clusters (Presteigne, Builth and Kington) and two counties (Powys and Herefordshire).

Over 100 children took part on the day, with great support from friends and family.

All the matches were played to high standards of sportsmanship, despite the fierce competition, especially in the closing stages as places in the finals were decided.

Eventually Pembridge Primary school overcame Gladestry Primary in a closely contested netball final.

While in the football tournament Kington Primary School beat newcomers Irfon Valley School, who competed for the first time.

All the matches were refereed and umpired by students from Lady Hawkins' High School, Kington, overseen by the John Beddoes 5x60 officer Jody Owen.

On the day all the umpires and referees, nominated their player of each match based on an individual's gamesmanship, attitude and determination, as well as skill level.

This culminated in Otto Parry and Cathy Harris being awarded medals as Players of the Tournament.

An annual event it is hoped next year the tournament can become even larger involving even more children in sport.
