Bishop's Castle artist Roj Williams has created a huge sculpture of a rhinoceros, ready for display at Bishop's Castle Open Studios Weekend, running from tomorrow until Sunday. The life-sized metal sculpture will be on show outside Bank House in Bishop's Castle High Street.
The Bishop's Castle Open Studios Weekend has been arranged to take the place of the Shropshire Hills Art Week which ran for four years. This time the organiser cited work commitments, but the following day Drusilla Cole, Sarah Jameson and Gerry Barwell decided to have their own Bishop's Castle based event. “ We want to attract more people to the town to show them the wealth of art, craft, antiques and good food in a beautiful setting,” explains Gerry Barwell. “We have 13 studios to visit, with artists using a variety of media and techniques including ceramics, textiles, paint, stained glass and wood. Bank House has an exhibition by 21 artists, while local artisan shops and cafes will be showing off their individual charms as well. Bishop's Castle is unusual in that all the car parks are free, so you can stay all day, or all weekend.”
