INTERNATIONAL Women's Day was celebrated in Hereford high town on March 8 at the Labour Party stall in the market place.

Several members dressed as Suffragettes greeted visitors to the stall, and provided information about International Women's day events happening in Hereford city.

A display celebrated famous women from Herefordshire and the Suffragette's campaign that had taken place locally to fight for votes for women. Visitors to the stall ranged in age from the older to younger generations.

Lively discussions took place and information was distributed. People were keen to hear about Labour Party policies on education, welfare, housing, health, social care and BREXIT in particular.

The opinion poll held at the stall, encouraged people to share their views on aspects of women's lives that needed to be addressed, resulting in the following votes from 90 participants: sex education in schools, 23%, gender pay gap, 24%, free childcare 25%, and domestic violence 26%.

Most participants commented that all the issues were of equal importance to the lives of women today.

Several visitors were pleased to learn that there were now active Labour Party groups campaigning in Herefordshire.

Details of future Labour Party meetings can be found on the Herefordshire Labour website herefordshirelabour.com or on Facebook: Hereford & South Herefordshire Labour.
