WOMEN with babes in arms are gathering at public workshops to try to save rural Midwife Led Units including Ludlow.

A meeting was held at the Rockspring Community Centre in Ludlow.

The Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group is including these workshops in recommendations to NHS bosses who will, decide the fate of Shropshire’s Midwife Led Units including the one in Ludlow that is at present closed.

It was pointed out at the Ludlow meeting, that national guidelines by the health body NICE recommend Midwife Led Units for women with low risks as cheaper, safer and better places to give birth.

Alison Hiles, mum of thee and campaigner for the unit in Ludlow, emphasised their importance for mums living in isolated rural areas.
