PEOPLE from Ludlow and visitors are being invited to join the great ‘get together’ in the town on Sunday (June 18).

It will replicate events taking place all over the country to mark the first anniversary of the death of Jo Cox MP.

In the wake of the general election communities across the country are preparing for the Great Get Together.

These are community-led events inspired by the late Jo Cox MP whose inaugural speech in Parliament stated: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”

Ludlow Fringe Festival, People 4 Ludlow and the Women’s Centre are coming together to host a street party in Castle Square on Sunday with the simple invite of ‘bring your own food and a little surplus to share’.

“In the light of recent events it’s even more vital that communities express their solidarity against violence and division and we hope that locals and visitors alike will join in and make this a great event,” said Chris Deaves of the campaign group People 4 Ludlow.

“All we are asking people to do is to bring along enough food to share so that others, perhaps unaware of the event, and visitors to Ludlow, can spontaneously join in and share in the strong community bonds in Ludlow.

“Tables, chairs and all other eating necessities, including soft drinks, will be provided and if the weather is bad we will celebrate in the Women’s Centre. We anticipate this event being a huge success and becoming an annual event at each Ludlow Fringe Festival”.

Frances Lloyd, of the Women’s Centre, reiterated some of the objectives of the day.

“We want the town to come together and not be separated by class, political views or wealth – we want to stand strong and show that communities will not be torn apart by violence,” she said.

There is a call for help on the day and anyone who wants to get involved should email ggt@people4ludlow.org.uk
