DISRUPTION caused by works in the centre of Tenbury has provoked anger and concern with a councillor claiming he was “accosted” by one trader.
Addressing the town council meeting, local member for Worcestershire Council Ken Pollock claimed the incident occurred when he was confronted by a furious trader in the street as feelings run high over a drop in trade.
“Trade is down and retailers are getting angry and anxious,” said Cllr Pollock, who it’s understood is not pursuing the matter.
“Most people seem happy with the work that is being done and are just impatient with the delays.”
In a bid to make sure the works are completed on time and ease pressure on traders, Market Street will be closed between 6pm and 6am from next Wednesday.
The decision will enable work to go on without interruption and is also likely to include weekends until the end of March.
“We are now approaching the final stages of the project that will make our town more attractive to shoppers and visitors,” said Cllr Pollock.
“Our town is still very much open and able to trade normally and I’d like to thank everyone who is backing our traders during this time and would encourage people to continue doing so.”
The road closure will affect all vehicles regardless of weight.
However, the 7.5 cwt restriction will continue with delivery windows between 7.30am and 9am and from 3.30pm to 5pm.
A weight restriction diversion will be in place between the A49 and Bromyard Road. There will be pedestrian access at all times.
Tenbury Chamber of Trade had previously warned that trade was being affected.
