THE Regal in Tenbury is to join an illustrious collection of museums and galleries from across the UK and Europe on Twitter later this month.

#MuseumWeek, is a project that will connect people to artwork, culture, history and science in new and interactive ways.

It takes place from Monday, March 24 – Sunday, March 30 and will give Twitter users direct and unparalleled access to some of Europe’s leading museums and the people behind them in 140-characters bursts.

Tenbury’s 76-year-old Art Deco treasure – with the address @regaltenbury, will join other UK organisations already signed up, including the Science Museum (@sciencemuseum), the Natural History Museum (@NHM_London), the Victoria and Albert Museum (@V_and_A), the British Museum (@britishmuseum), Eureka! The National Children’s Museum (@eurekamuseum) and the Tate (@Tate).

The Regal will join forces with the heavy weights across the UK and Europe by including the hashtag #MuseumWeek in its Tweets for the week, meaning users can follow along on Twitter. In addition, every day there will be a different theme including #MuseumSelfies, #AskTheCurator, and #MuseumMemories.

As the Advertiser reported previously, the Regal’s past was uncovered during the venue’s recent major refurbishment. Part of the building dates back to the 15th century, and more recent items, such as cigarette packets and cards belonging to men who built it in the 1930s, can now be seen as part of a special exhibit in the venue.

Since its reopening guided tours have proved extremely popular. The auditorium features original George Le gge murals on three walls, which have been restored in fine detail, by mural artist Richard P Gill.

The original pay box, complete with curved glass and brass striping, adorns the foyer wall and original wooden poster frames are still used.
