I am an ex National Service man who served in the Middlesex Regiment in Korea.

I write a newsletter for a lot of our veterans who wish to be kept in touch, called Keeping You in Touch.

When we went to Korea back on August 25, 1950, we were made up of a lot of men from different regiments. A large number came from the K.S.L.I. and the South Staffs. On February 14 and 15 1951 two of those killed were a Pte D.E. Pitt also Pte G. Minton. Both of these men came from Ludlow. There may have been a story of this in your newspaper at that time.

It is only this past few days that another chap sent me a report which he wrote on the Battle at Chaum-Ni where the said men lost their lives. They were very good pals of his along with another chap by the name of Mr Tony Edwards who also came from Ludlow. The three named chaps were all good mates together and apparently they knew each other from their school days. They joined up together, joined the K.S.L.I. together went to Hong Kong and ended up in the Middlesex in Korea. The Middlesex Regt along with the Argyles were the first British Land Forces to go to Korea. The regiment was awarded seven battle honours, the most awards of any of the Regiments that served in Korea.

It would be nice to have something on a little story like this for the sake of all of those young men that we left behind in Pusan in Korea.

For all of those that paid the price – they are not forgotten.
