Lady Gaga has said that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Million Reasons singer – who in 2014 revealed that she had been raped when she was 19 – opened up during an interview on America’s Today show.
The programme aired a video segment in which Gaga visited a homeless shelter for LGBT youth, showing her chatting with them and handing out clothes and other items.
She then said during her interview: “I told the kids today that I suffer from a mental illness – I suffer from PTSD.”
She went on: “I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are.
“But the kindness that’s been shown to me by doctors — as well as my family and my friends — it’s really saved my life.”
Gaga went on: “My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma of others.”
The star later tweeted a link to the Today video and wrote: “Today I shared one my deepest secrets w/ the world. Secrets keep you sick w/ shame. Watch this video #ShareKindness.”
