MALVERN Hills planners are to be congratulated for the work they carried out resulting in the passing of the application by Tesco for a new store in Tenbury. It is clear the people of Tenbury will benefit from a store that has been designed especially for the Town.

The benefits are that it will remove the decade-long eyesore of the former cattle market, there will be a free car park for 100 cars with no restriction on where people shop. Some shop owners will be pleased that there is to be no butchery department, no opticians, no chemists and no cafe.

This means only a few town centre shops will face any competition from Tesco. They will contribute funds to improved bus services and other facilities in the town.

Tesco is a very successful company but only because millions of people use its supermarkets.

It is my hope there will be no further delay in building work starting.

The planners made out a very detailed argument to justify their support for the application, councillors voted 11 to1 in favour, leaving no real argument to go to appeal or judicial review.
