VETERAN boss Geoff Simkiss made his first appearance for six years in Town’s Shropshire County League Division One defeat.

Simkiss joined the fray with 15 minutes remaining with his side 2-0 down — but he couldn’t inspire a memorable comeback.

“We were 2-0 down and, at that stage, we were still in the game,” said Simkiss, whose side travel to struggling Wrockwardine Wood Juniors on Saturday.

“I came on for the last 15 minutes — it was the first time I had played for five or six years.

“If we had been losing by five or six, I wouldn’t have come on.

“I did it to cause a bit of a nuisance.”

Simkiss added: “We didn’t play too badly but we need to address our mistakes.

“We had plenty of play but, at the moment, we just can’t buy a goal.”

Ricky Simkiss had two early efforts well saved by the Prees keeper before the hosts scored two quick-fire goals.

Jesse James headed narrowly wide and substitute Dale Hodge had a header tipped over and then an effort cleared off the line.

Jason Mynett had an opportunity ruled out for off-side and then pushed a one-on-one chance just wide.

Town are third-from-bottom and Simkiss said: “We played some decent football — but we must start taking our chances.”
