Ludlow beaten by Market Drayton in Shropshire Shield

LUDLOW finished runners-up in the Shropshire Shield at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

Matt Blount and James Pratt scored for Ludlow and Dave Hughes made some fine saves but they were beaten 3-2 by higher-graded Market Drayton in a hard-fought final.

Ludlow had romped into the final after a 7-3 victory over Oswestry in the last-four.

Brothers James and Brendon Pratt shared five of Ludlow’s goals, while skipper Stuart Richards bagged the other two.

A superb second-half hat-trick from Joe Hayward led a combined Ludlow 2nd and 3rd team to a 6-3 success over Bounville 5th at Much Wenlock.

Jake Watts and Graeme Wilcox were also among the scorers for Ludlow, while George Borns, Tyler Davies and Steve Barnes all impressed.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Zoe Morgan conceded just one goal as Ludlow Ladies won two of their games in the Shropshire Cup.

They borrowed two players from Shrewsbury to make up a team and recorded 2-0 wins over Telford 2nd and Wem.

Naomi Burgoyne, Emma Pollock, Georgina Morris and Kim Jones scored Ludlow’s goals.

Ludlow, however, lost 1-0 against Oswestry and had to settle for runners-up spot in their group. Oswestry progressed to the final.
