Dismal afternoon for Tenbury’s top sides

Toros Colts 6 Tenbury Town 3.

TENBURY Town paid the penalty for a lack-lustre first-half performance when they met Toros Colts at Hereford Leisure Centre.

They made a marked improvement after the turnaround, but the damage was done, and they finished up well beaten by their fellow Hereford Times Herefordshire League Division 3 mid-table hosts.

Missing key players, goalkeeper Steve Denning and centre half Dave Coupland, through injuries, Tenbury found themselves chasing the game at the break after conceding three soft goals.

They played with more spirit and determination in the second half but were unable to turn the game around.

Tenbury scored three goals, Ashley Botwood converted a penalty to go with well-taken goals from Toby Gittens and James Williams, but these were cancelled out by three more from the Colts.

Wem 11 Tenbury United 0.

AFTER pushing Wem close in the cup at Palmer’s Meadow the previous weekend, United’s much-changed side caved in the second half when the two sides met in the Division 2 of the West Midlands League at Wem.

United competed quite well for half an hour. They created a couple of chances themselves, and, although Alex Bright was kept busy in their goal, they defended reasonably well.

A goal from a deflection and another which was turned in off a post, helped Wem to build a 4-0 before the break.

Wem scored again at the start of the second half to drain away any resistance that United had and went on to add six more goals in a one-sided second period.
