Bishop's Castle go second after big victory

BISHOP’S Castle thumped visiting Shinal 3rd by eight wickets, bowling them out cheaply after winning the toss.

The win leaves Castle in second spot in Division 2 of the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire County League.

Castle were on top from the start, with Shifnal in all sorts of trouble at 4-3. Niall Rose (22) and Mark Woodbridge (18) lifted their hopes briefly, but once they were out there was little resistance and the innings was completed inside 30 overs.

Will Middleton (3-16), Adam Williams (3-22) and Simon Palmer claimed the majority of the wickets.

Castle were quickly into their stride when they batted, despite the early loss of Jonathan Price. Andrew Lewis (29) and Williams took them to the brink of victory, leaving Richard Fifield to apply the finishing touch in the 15th over. Williams was undefeated on 26.

l Bishop’s Castle 2nd suffered their first defeat of the season in Division 7 when they went down by 37 runs to the Forton second string at home on Sunday. They restricted Forton to 165-8 but were then bowled out for 128 in the 35th over.

Michael Davies (5-31) bowled well for Bishop’s while Andy Murray (35), and Joe McKay (21) were among the runs. Tom Moulder took two wickets and scored 21.

l After winning the previous weekend, Corvedale returned to losing ways in Division 4 when they went down by four wickets at Beacon. They were bowled out for 101 and the home side eased home for the loss of six wickets.
