Bomere Heath 177-7 Ludlow 144.
LUDLOW looked to be on their way to victory when they required 51 runs to win with just three wickets down.
But a batting collapse saw them lose by 33 runs to Bomere Heath in the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League in the final over of the game at the Burway.
The home side lost their last seven wickets for just 27 runs, with the final three of them all going down with the score on 144.
Ludlow elected to field when they won the toss and, although they kept a tight rein on the run-rate, they had to wait some time before taking their first wicket.
Skipper Steve Small had turned to spinner Peter Coote when Martin Hulme (15) was caught by Tom Stanley off him to end a patient innings with the score on 47.
Coote followed up by removing the next two batsmen without conceding a run. Neil Proctor (13) got his head down and helped opener Ian Gillespie to double the score. Gillespie was next to go with the score on 134, ending what turned out to be a match-winning innings of 74.
He faced 116 balls scoring 11 fours and one six before holing out to Small off the bowling of Coote.
Daniel Stevens (20) and Rob Dean increased the run-rate to take the score to 177-7 at the end of their 50 overs. Coote finished with 4-59 off 16 overs.
When Ludlow batted, Tom Stanley edged his second ball and was caught behind off Andrew Oliver. Tim Goldthorp joined Sam Edwards and the pair got their heads down to give Ludlow a solid base. Goldthorp (26) was out with the score on 67.
Edwards was next to go for a plucky 40 off 112 balls with the score just short of three figures. This brought Ali Raza in to join Will Sparrow and they were just getting into their stride when they departed, within five runs of one another, for 21 and 14 respectively .
Ambitions now turned to saving the game, but wickets continued to fall and skipper Small was left marooned when the final wicket went down off the second ball of the final over.
Oliver ended with 4-48 and Shivraj Khenwar 4-41.
Ludlow 2nd 119 ao Bomere Heath 2nd 121-3 Bomere 2nd made it a double success when they chased Ludlow’s modest total of 119 to run out comfortable seven-wicket winners with ample time to spare.
Ludlow found runs hard to come by when they batted first after losing the toss. Gareth Parker (29), Richard Mapp (34) and stand-in skipper Dave Proctor (13) were the only three batsmen to reach double figures.
Edward Rayen (2-18) and Oliver Holt whipped out the first three batsmen when the home side batted, but then Matthew Hall (44) and Andy Flann (39) took charge and steered Heath home in the 25th over. Ludlow used eight bowlers.
l Ludlow 3rd's home game with Hales in Division 5 of the Shropshire County League was called off after heavy rain on Friday.
