FRUSTRATED skippers Ross Mantle and Richard Plant just missed out on centuries on a mixed afternoon for our clubs in the Shropshire League.

Corvedale captain Mantle was on 97 when he was bowled by Beacon 3rds’ Tim Cliffe having scored 72 of his runs for the Division Four high-fliers in boundaries.

Glyn Tipton (20) and Harry Aldrisge (37) added useful runs further down the order as the home side were dismissed for 189.

Mantle was also among the wickets and his 3-13 had his side on the brink of victory only for Beacon to hold on at 101-9 to claim a share of the spoils.

Bishops Castle skipper Plant was left stranded on 94 not out, losing partners as his side were dismissed for 169 at Wheaton Aston in Division Two. The home side reached their target for the loss of just five wickets.

In Division Three, Church Stretton beat St George’s 3rds by five wickets.

And it was an excellent display of bowling that did the damage with Ed Groom taking 4-14, Keith Yapp 3-42 and Saif Khalid 2-15 to have the home side all out for 106.

In reply Ben Crump scored 37 as Stretton coasted to 107-5 after just 19 overs.
