TENBURY Wells got their season off to a positive start with a winning draw at Himley in Division Four of the Worcestershire League.

Having seen their home opener rained off a week before, Tenbury began the season with bat in hand after hosts Himley won the toss and put them in.

With rain reducing the match to a Twenty20 affair, Tenbury scored heavily to post an impressive 173-4 from their 20 overs.

Ben Thompson (13) was run out fairly early on but fellow opener Andrew Adams (22) and Tom Rawlings (16) kept the scoreboard ticking over.

From there, Tenbury stepped up the run rate as Marcus Griffiths (37no), Zack Yarranton (36) and Chris Giles (28no) set Himley an imposing target.

The hosts failed to get anywhere near, settling for the losing draw on 119-6, only Oliver Baker (58) and Sam Cookson (34) making any impact as Jamie Farrar (3-32) and Griffiths (2-33) shone with the ball for Tenbury.

Tenbury’s second XI were rained off in the reverse fixture.
