JOCKEY Charlie Deutsch warmed up for Saturday’s Grand National by landing a 43-1 double at Monday’s Ludlow race meeting.

He made the perfect start by steering 3-1 shot Shalakar to a four length victory in the opening race, the Heath Farm Meats Novices' Hurdle.

And he then saddled up another Venetia Williams trained horse in Uhlan Bute to take the 2m7f Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap Chase.

Deutsch and WIlliams will be hoping to maintain their winning ways going into Saturday’s big race at Aintree where he rides Houblon Des Obeaux.

Stan Sheppard partnererd the 4-1 shot Rock On Rocky to victory in the day’s big race, the class 3 Boyne Cup (Handicap Chase), winning by just over a length from Colin’s Brother with joint favourites Space Oddity and Mick Thonic finishing outside of the places.

The favourite fared better in the class 3 Michael Lumsden Memorial Handicap Hurdle where I’m A Game Changer held on despite making a mistake three from home.

Miss Tynte was one of the most impressive winners, coming home six lengths clear at 12-1 in the Weatherbys General Stud Book Mares' Handicap Hurdle.
