TENBURY United must start turning draws into victories if they want to challenge for the Herefordshire County League Premier title, says joint-boss Aaron Morris.

The Palmers Meadow outfit drew 5-5 at home to Malvern Town U21 last Saturday following a topsy-turvy encounter.

United had the lead three times but Malvern, who finished with ten men, fought back to lead 5-4 until a late Tenbury equaliser meant the points were shared.

A Rob Hill double and strikes from Chris Patton, Ryan Morris and Aaron Morris saw Tenbury hit the back of the net five times but the joint-boss knows they must tighten up at the back.

“It wasn’t a day for the defenders but to be fair to Malvern, they scored most of their chances,” Morris said.

“It was two points dropped from our point of view and we just can’t seem to finish teams off at the moment.

“I know we scored five but we could have had a few more too and we’ve got to take our chances.

“We know we’ll score goals with the attacking talent so it’s about making sure we don’t concede too many.

“It’s a positive that we’re still picking up points against teams around and above us but a lot of those points could have easily turned into three.”

United travel to fourth-placed Ewyas Harold this weekend before hosting strugglers Pegasus Reserves at Palmers Meadow.

They then have two crunch fixtures away at high-flyers Kington Town Reserves and Ledbury Town and Morris says the next few weeks could make or break their season.

“If you catch Pegasus on a Saturday, you’ll be alright because they can’t put their first team out,” Morris said.

“Kington will be a tough game and then Ledbury away is always difficult with the slope and gale force winds.

“If we can pick up a few wins we will be very happy.

"I don’t think we can afford to drop many more points up until Christmas.

“You’ve got to take points off the teams around you and it would be a big statement if we can go to the likes of Kington and Ledbury and get wins.”

Despite winning just one of their last four league games, drawing the other three, Morris is still aiming to be competing at the top of the table come the business end of the season.

“In my time at Tenbury, I’ve never been involved with a better squad,” Morris added.

“The five subs we had on the bench on Saturday have all started at some point this season.

"There is no dead wood in the squad.

“Winning the league is the target - we want nothing else.

"It’s the one thing we haven’t won since being in this league so that’s what we want.

“We’re out of most of the cups so we’ve pretty much got all of our eggs in one basket now.

"I’m confident the lads will do well.”
