LUDLOW started their hockey campaign on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Market Drayton in the West Midlands Premier Division.

But there was disappointment 24 hours later when they lost 3-2 at Belper in the England Hockey Cup competition.

Against Market Drayton, debutant Adam Hayward led the way with a hat-trick but only after the visitors had opened the scoring through a penalty after just three minutes.

Another new signing, Ryan Fellows, scored the other Ludlow goal and his team will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins when they head to county rivals Shrewsbury this weekend.

Gavin Hughes and Fellows were on target in the cup game but their efforts were not enough to stop the Derbyshire side from going through to the next round.

Tenbury Ladies drew 1-1 against Worcester Ladies 2nds even though they were forced into a change after just five minutes when Emily Moseley picked up an injury.

Cat Mumford scored the goal that cancelled out an earlier strike from the home side.

Tenbury 2nds beat Kings Heath Pickwick 2nds 2-0 thanks to goals from Vicky Roberts and Izzy Griffiths.
