TENBURY United hope to complete the first leg of an historic league and cup double on the back of a timely boost at the weekend.

Despite United seeing their trip to Pegasus Reserves postponed, title-rivals Hinton could only muster a 0-0 draw at Fownhope.

The difference at the top is six points and Tenbury have a game in hand but their focus now shifts to Saturday’s Worcestershire Minor Cup final against Hanley Swan at the County Sports Ground (2pm).

Church Stretton’s Mercian League championship hopes hang by a thread despite ending a four-match winless streak against Hodnet.

Dean Richards netted a hat-trick to take to 32 goals his tally for the season with Kieran Bates also on target but with two matches to play, they trail leaders Rock Rovers – Stretton’s opponents on the last day of the season – by six points.

Both teams are also at the mercy of Oakengates Athletic, a team with eight points to make up on Rock but with five matches to do it in.

Nathan Giles also hit a treble in Division One as Craven Arms Town thumped Denso 8-0. Dan Gower (2), Jason Mynett, Toby Foxall and Kevin Price added their names to the score sheet.

All-conquering Bishop’s Castle reached the final of the Tanners Town Cup with a 3-2 penalty shoot-out win over Llanfyllin.

The match had ended 3-3 after extra-time with Castle largely on top, even following the dismissal of Mark Griffiths towards the end of the 90 minutes.

Nathan Hardisty netted twice as Orleton Colts drew 2-2 at Wellington Reserves but the second string’s dismal season continued with a 16-1 stuffing by Wellington Colts. James Bentley fired home the consolation.

Gemma Millichamp’s strike was in vain as Ludlow’s ladies lost 2-1 at their Evesham United counterparts.
