CLEE Hill United’s Mercian League title dream appears to have been dashed following Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Rock Rovers.

Liam Whitbread’s penalty was not enough as Glenn Evans (2) and Liam Robinson fired the visitors to a fourth straight Premier Division victory.

The result was Rovers climb to the summit with a two-point advantage over Childs Ercall, who have just one match remaining.

Clee Hill sit fourth and trail the leaders by three points but with only two matches to play themselves, their destiny is very much in the hands of others.

Church Stretton’s bid also faltered with a 2-0 home defeat to Gobowen Celtic. Luke Dwyer and Joe Pierpoint were on target at Hanwood Recreation Ground to leave the hosts three points shy of top spot, albeit with a game in hand on Rovers.

Stretton host second-bottom Wrockwardine Wood on Saturday (2.30) on the back of the strugglers doing them a favour by beating fifth-placed Oakengates Athletic 3-2, a side that remains handily placed for a late push courtesy of games in hand. The reverse fixture signalled Stretton's last win back in January.

In Division One, Craven Arms Town failed to get on the score sheet but still mustered a 1-1 draw with Coven United.

John Anthony found the wrong net with Nathan Phillips on target for Coven. The point leaves Town seventh in the standings ahead of Saturday’s home clash with St Martins Village (2.30).

Brown Clee were beaten 3-1 at St Georges United to stay 11th going into a trip to Stoke Heath on Saturday (2.30).
