TENBURY Town need just five points to guarantee the Herefordshire League Division One title after winning 5-1 at Hinton reserves on Saturday.

Declan Bright (2), Mark Boucker, Jack Farrar and substitute Andre Pereira made it 35 goals in six straight victories for the leaders who were boosted by nearest-rivals Hereford City losing 2-1 at third-placed Holme Lacy Reserves.

Darren Worthington’s men are 11 points clear at the top with a return of 49 so far but are unable to mathematically seal the crown even with a win from Saturday’s trip to Fownhope reserves (2.30).

Kington Town Reserves can still reach 53 points and do not play at the weekend, although City, Wellington Colts and Ledbury Town Reserves could see their challenges definitively ended.

Tenbury United, who were one of several teams left kicking their heels due to the weather at the weekend, face a must-win clash at home to leaders Hinton in the Premier Division on Saturday (2.30).

United sit third and trail Hinton by eight points, albeit with a game in hand, heading into the home straight in the county’s title race.

Church Stretton and Bishop’s Castle Town could meet in the Shropshire Saturday Challenge Cup final having safely negotiated last-eight ties and avoided one another in Monday’s draw.

Castle, flying high with a 100 per cent record in the Montgomeryshire League, continued their fine form back across the border with a 3-2 extra-time victory at Mercian League Premier Division outfit Rock Rovers.

Dan Dawson’s charges had to battle back from behind after Rovers had taken the lead on the break in the first half but Mark Griffiths levelled matters shortly before the interval.

Alex Jones then fired the visitors ahead with a fierce free-kick but Castle sat back which led to a somewhat inevitable equaliser.

Extra-time saw both teams go for the throat but player-boss Dawson helped to decide matters as his corner provided the ammunition for Rovers to concede an own goal. Castle now go to Oakengates Athletic in a semi-final tie scheduled for Saturday, April 8.

Mercian Premier title-chasers Stretton saw off St Georges United 3-1 on their own patch to join them and will travel to AFC Bridgnorth Reserves or Gobowen Celtic in the last four.

In Mercian One, Dale Hodge was the five-goal hero as Craven Arms Town whacked Oakengates Rangers 8-2. Aaron Hodge weighed in with a brace alongside an own goal. Newcastle lost 3-0 at home to Presteigne reserves in Mid-Wales League South.

Roebuck went goal crazy with a 13-1 thrashing of Rosey Athletic in the Herefordshire Sunday League Northern Division. Jon Amos netted seven and was joined on the roll of honour by Jabez Smith (2), Stephen Swan (2), William Caswell, and Andrew Cadwallader. A Tom Cutler penalty was all Rosey had to show for their efforts
