LUDLOW Golf Club can look forward to the next stage of the Ken Smith Trophy having topped their group.

Captain Eddie Rowland and his charges saw off the challenge of South Herefordshire & Oswestry among others to enjoy a safe passage.

Meanwhile, Nick Goodwin mastered the cold weather to win Division One of Ludlow's November Stableford with 42 points.

Goodwin finished three clear of runner-up Kevin Farrell with Division Two won by Graham Spencer (37), a point ahead of Steve Ross.

Aubrey Groom (39) claimed the top prize in Division Three, beating runner-up Howard Goodwin by three.

Mike Wallace and Chris Evans shared the plaudits in the delayed seniors’ roll-up, finishing joint-first from a field of 55 competitors. Joe Patrick and Rex Tudor-Hughes finished two and four shots back respectively.

Elsewhere, Matt Fairman, Ash Cook, Adam Cook and Mark Mansell emerged victorious from Cleobury Mortimer’s Yellowball competition.

The four-man format saw the yellow ball rotated around the teams for double points with early starters Paul Judge, Stuart Fellos, Ian Juckes and Nick Firth setting a high standard with 115 points.

But the midday team, which Mansell was drafted into at the 11th hour, outgunned their opponents.

Team captain Ash Cook said: “We all played really well and everyone contributed with the yellow ball.

“It was cold but the conditions were fantastic and we owe a big thank you to Mark for stepping in. We were still a three-ball two hours before play.”

Cleobury wonderkid Jack Severn continued his rich vein of form with victory in the club’s Scratch Knockout Trophy.

Severn piled on the pressure with early birdies and saw out the success with two of the 36 holes to spare. He now turns his attention to the Junior European Open in Andalucia, Spain at the end of the month.
