HEREFORD FC goalkeeper Alex Harris says it's worth fighting for his place because 'there's no better club in the area'.

Harris returned to the side for yesterday's 2-0 win against Shortwood United after Martin Horsell sustained a shoulder injury last week.

Ther former Cinderford Town stopper - who made a league record 24 clean sheets last season to help Town to the Southern League Division One South & West title - had signed a dual registration deal with Lydney Town in order to get more games under his belt.

"It was either that or move on and I didn't want to do that," said Harris.

"They won the league last year and there's no better club around Hereford at the moment.

"It's worth working hard to get back into the team.

"I got lucky this week with Martin being injured, so hopefully I can keep my place.

"I've known Martin for quite a while and he's a good keeper.

"He's got a bit more experience than me, but we work together well and push each other hard.

"The young lad, Max [Harris] is also coming on and there's no grudges between us, we just get on with it."

Harris admitted he didn't have the best of games against Tonbridge Angels in the FA Cup last month and found himself out of the Hereford starting line up.

"I worked hard to get back into the team and got a clean sheet, so I'm happy," added Harris.

"In the previous two games, we conceded late goals and switched off.

"I try and keep them on their toes all game and we normally get clean sheets.

"I was happy with that, a solid 2-0 win and they didn't create too many chances."
