CLEOBURY protege Jack Severn enjoyed another bumper week with a personal best round and back-to-back competition victories.

Severn’s 66 gross in the Junior Club Championship equalled the junior course record on Badger’s Sett and Deer Park with a performance that reduced to two his handicap.

And the 15-year-old continued his fine fettle the following day in a roll up with a three-under gross 68 to earn 41 points, claiming the top prize by three ahead of rival Tom Roberts, further reducing his handicap to 1.6.

At the start of April, Severn’s handicap was 4.9 and with a couple of qualifiers still to play, he seems destined to shoot for one this year.

Over at Ludlow Golf Club, Daz Humphries, George Watton, Harry Lines and Andy Ferriday set a new standard in the Open Texas Scramble.

The in-form quartet won with a whopping score of 49.8 courtesy of a 19-under-par which featured two pars, 13 birdies and three eagles.

The monumental tally beat any past score recorded in the competition’s history and won the day comfortably.

Ludlow members Nick Apperley and Michelle Mann teamed up with Jeremy Clift and Michele Evans from Swindon Golf Club to secure second place with a score of 51.35.

The event attracted a full field of 148 players who all enjoyed a high standard of golf and some good course conditions thanks to the kind autumn weather.

Roger Painter joined forces with Miles Leach, Ken Bill and Andrew MacWhirter to win Monday’s Seniors Open Am-Am.

Their excellent score of 91 points saw them finish a single score ahead of Cleobury’s Ian Pringle, Neil Brydon, Richard Meredith and Andy Knott from a field of more than 140 competitors.

Meanwhile, Ludlow’s members raised £149 for Homestart, a charity which helps to support families, by playing dressed as children.
