BISHOP’S Castle Town have finally won their biggest battle after being granted permission to play in the Montgomeryshire League.

Town were stopped from crossing the border to play in the Welsh system and faced a year out of competitive action.

But after county chiefs at the Shropshire FA belatedly backed the move, the national associations of England and Wales sanctioned their transfer.

In the Mercian League Premier Division, goals from Steve Preece and Liam Whitbread could not prevent Clee Hill United going down 3-2 at home to Shifnal United 97.

Craven Arms Town were in seventh heaven after running riot at Albrighton in Division One. Nathan Giles and Aaron Hodge plundered doubles with Dale Hodge and substitute Joel Jackson on the score sheet in a 7-3 success.

Elsewhere, James Byatt and Tom Everall scored but Brown Clee lost 3-2 at home to FC Oswestry Town reserves.

Church Stretton, who won 4-1 at Bridgnorth Reserves, make the trip to Rock Rovers and Clee Hill United journey to Wrockwardine Wood in the Premier Division on Saturday.

In Division One, Brown Clee host Whitchurch Alport, while Craven Arms play at St Martins (all 3pm).

Orleton Colts endured a weekend to forget with the first team going down 3-0 at Ewyas Harold in the Herefordshire Premier and the Reserves losing 4-1 at home to their Kington Town counterparts in Division One.

James Bentley scored for the second string, who look to get back to winning ways against Fownhope Reserves on Saturday (2.30pm).

Orleton’s first-team face a trip to Hereford Lads Club in the county cup (2pm). Tenbury United entertain Lads Club’s second string in the league (2.30pm).

Luke Pugh, Simon Bull’s own goal, Marian Jusko and Dan Gower saw Woofferton beat Ludlow Colts 4-0. Woofferton travel to Shobdon in the HFA Junior Cup on Saturday (2pm).
